“I love a good dream sequence” could be a quote from any Tim Burton film, however, it just makes the most sense for it to be from the new ‘Beetlejuice Beetlejuice’ (I won't say it three times!) movie. A film that could quite literally have been taken from one of my dreams, purely because of the complete absurdity and randomness of some of the plot points.
Some films these days tend to lack nonsensicality for fear of looking aesthetically bad but this is something that Tim Burton never seems to be scared of.
This is seen in another project he created called ‘Miss Peregrine's Home for peculiar children’ with Ella Purnell, who looks like she might actually be ‘Emily’ from the ‘Corpses Bride’ and Asa Butterfields american accent which was scary enough that the films frightening fiends aren't really needed and are more just an added bonus, where the complete ridiculousness of the monsters eating eyeballs to stay immortal is what makes the film so enjoyable. Because it allows the audience to escape to a complete fantasy world with ease as they are taken on a crazy journey.
The film ‘Beetlejuice Beetlejuice’ is critically above average, receiving a moderate rating of '6.9' on 'IMDb', but the thing that makes it stand out is the fact that the film doesn't take itself too seriously, I mean, Charles Deetz’s gravestone was in the shape of a shark fin which is all sorts of funny. The obsession Wilem Dafoe's character had with those tiny cups of coffee which had no significance to the plot but it added so much to the importance of his character and it simply made sense was comical.
On top of that, every actor gave an incredibly convincing performance that had audiences believing that they were actually in this otherworldly world.
Finally, what a big year for the sand worms: first ‘Dune: Part 2’ and now this, when are they going to finally get their Oscar because surely they've earned one by now?
