NEW DALES VALE ran away with it late on in a spiky affair as they beat Ledbury FC 5-1 in the HFA Charity Bowl.

New Dales scored two injury time goals through Luke Tomkins and Yuri Quintas to wrap up, what in the end was a convincing victory for the away side.

The match saw manager Ian Merrick return as Ledbury FC manager, with a depleted squad that was missing several key first-team players.

The match was cagey throughout and erupted with a flurry of bookings coming in the second-half, as both teams grew frustrated as the game progressed.

New Dales started the match quickly with an early goal from Jack Williams as he poked home Tomkin’s cross, which wrong-footed the Ledbury defence.

Connor Baker for the visitors troubled the Ledbury defence in the first-half putting in several crosses that reached Haydn Widdowson, who was unable to convert his opportunities.

Ledbury pushed after the early goal, with Tom Boyle whipping in an excellent delivery mid-way through the half to Nathan Ince who forced a sharp stop from goalkeeper Ryan Williams.

New Dales had the opportunity to add a second before the half as a deflected ball fell kindly to Max Pinches whose effort sailed just wide of right post.

The half started quickly with a quick-fire goal from Jack Williams as Widdowson knocked the ball back across for a tap-in finish.

Ledbury responded well, earning a penalty through Tom Boyle who was bought down inside the area.

Ince then dramatically missed the penalty, but was there to tidy up the rebound to get Ledbury back into the match.

A wave of chances then followed for both teams as Pinches fired a shot just wide of the right post; Ledbury's Ince then had two successive shots saved by New Dales goalkeeper Ryan Williams shortly after.

The visitors looked certain to score when Baker played the ball across to Pinches whose first-time effort clattered into the post, but was unable to find the net.

New Dales started to dominate the play late on in the match, and were rewarded with a penalty after Peter Boyle was deemed to have fouled Jack William inside the area.

Pinches converted the penalty with a powerful effort that left Ledbury goalkeeper Archie Hughes routed to his line, as he restored their two-goal cushion.

Ledbury pushed desperately towards the end but were caught out with two quick counters by New Dales, with substitute Quintas at the heart of both moves.

Quintas' brilliant chipped finished sealed the win comfortably for the visitors, leaving Ledbury to ponder over yet another defeat.

The result left Ledbury still in search of a win since September, as they extended their poor run of form to five games without a win.

Ledbury's next game is against Bromyard at home on Saturday (November 15).
