IT was a top-of-the-table stalemate between Ledbury and title rivals New Dales Vale on Saturday as neither side were able to land what would have been a vital three points in their respective bids to become champions.
It looks to be a three-way tie for the Herefordshire FA County League Premier Division title with Wellington the current favourites at the top of the division.
Ledbury have played two games more than both Vale and Wellington, so a victory here was more vital for their hopes of staying in the hunt.
But it was not to be as neither side could break through a pair of stubborn defences on Saturday afternoon.
It was a much better day for Wellington, as they took full advantage of the other two taking points off each other. They were 2-1 winners at Ludlow Town Colts, three points that took them to the summit, level on points with Ledbury but with two games in hand.
New Dales Vale sit third, two points behind the top two, but also have games in hand on Ledbury and whilst three points would have been a huge step towards the title, they remain well placed to go head-to-head with Wellington.
As for Ledbury, they had their chances in the first-half to take a lead into the break, but were unable to convert. The hosts then went close in the closing stages of the game but in the end, a draw was a fair result on the balance of play.
Vale host Gloucester City Reserves this weekend, whilst Wellington are also at home to bottom-of-the-table Tenbury United. Both can open up a lead on Ledbury with three points, so it will be a case of sitting back and hoping for some favours as far as Ledbury are concerned.
