LEDBURY maintained their unbeaten start to the season last weekend as they romped to a comprehensive nine-wicket win over West Malvern 2XI.
Having won all of their matches so far (one game cancelled), Ledbury went into the home clash with West Malvern on top of Division Eight in the Worcestershire County League.
And after a brilliant bowling performance from Duncan Bell (4-16), Ledbury were able to reduce the visitors to just 102 runs in their 43 overs.
With the rest of the country dealing with torrential rain from around 4 pm onwards, that was not an issue for Ledbury as they had the game wrapped up well before then as they lost just one wicket in their chase of Malvern's total.
Openers Chris Dandy and Josh Evans put on 84 for the first wicket but the latter fell for 28 when caught by Steve Wright off the bowling of Samuel Waller.
But Dandy, who finished not-out with 62, did not need any more help as he produced the remaining runs necessary to ensure Ledbury picked up the victory with nine wickets still remaining.
The win keeps Ledbury top of the table with five wins from their seven matches (one cancelled game and one game was conceded by their opposition). They have 125 points and are 28 clear of second-placed Bosbury.
As for the 2XI, their game did unfortunately fall foul to the weather and it was abandoned in Ledbury's innings.
Hanley Castle and Upton had posted 270/6 from their 40 overs but four overs into Ledbury's reply, the rain put an end to proceedings with the visitors 49/1.
