LEDBURY remain on top of Division Eight in the Worcestershire County League after a four-wicket victory at Brockhampton.
The hosts won the toss and elected to bat on a glorious day in Herefordshire. But openers Robin Holgate (12) and Graham Parker (18) did not last long.
Charlie Tobey was also dismissed and the home team were three wickets down relatively early on in the contest. Ledbury's Chris Willemstein took all three wickets as he made his mark with the ball.
But then came Elliot Jones, who stabilised the innings and proved too stubborn a nut to crack in the end.
Whilst he stayed at the crease and kept the runs ticking over, the wicket did fall around him but Chris Breeze did provide some assistance with 22 before he was bowled by Tom Hill.
Hill then had another as he sent William Kennedy's stumps tumbling for 8. Arthur Harris has Thomas Morris caught for 4 before he bowled Paul Harrison for a duck.
But Jones' stayed strong and scored a brilliant 121 to give the hosts a chance of winning or at the very least a score - 226 - to defend.
Whilst there were no centurions for Ledbury, they had more consistent runs scored across the order.
Opener Josh Evans scored 59 and Chris Dandy managed 36 before Nick Gibbons added 45 to the score. But the home side did make breakthroughs eventually but in the end, Willemstein's unbeaten 28 got them over the line for the victory in the 38th over.
As for the 2XI, they were unable to make it two wins from two as they fell to a 64-run defeat at home to Droitwich Spa 5XI.
Droitwich's Chris Berry carried his bat through the innings with a terrific 110, whilst James King scored 50 as Droitwich posted 266 for the loss of just five wickets.
Steve Burgess scored 77 and Rhys Gunter provided 40 for Ledbury in response but they came up well short in the end.
This weekend, the 1XI look to maintain their unbeaten record when they host West Malvern 2XI at home, whilst the 2s are also at home to Hanley Castle.
