THE continued success of Ledbury Rugby Club’s youth and minis section took them all the way to Twickenham Stadium after being nominated for the Crabbie’s National Rugby Awards.
Each Sunday more than 400 young rugby players descend on the club’s Ross Road base to take part in a thriving junior section.
Worcester Warriors star Will Butler is a shining example for new recruits – having played for the club since the age of six, the centre has gone on to represent his country at youth level.
“We achieve a heck of a lot in the local community and it’s all down to the growth of our grassroots,” chairman Roger Bateson said.
“It’s great for a little rural club to achieve what we’ve done.”
Among Ledbury’s plans for the future include a link-up with Strong Young Minds, a Big Lottery funded project to improve the mental health of young people in Herefordshire.
Veseyans Rugby Club claimed the overall prize but Bateson added: “We’re very proud.
“It’s a great recognition of what the club has done and encourages us to keep going.”
Crabbie’s Alcoholic Ginger Beer passionately supports rugby at all levels.
The brand returns as the Headline Sponsor for the 2018 National Rugby Awards after partnering with the event for the first time in 2016.
Ledbury lost their Midlands Three West (South) opener 52-17 defeat at Shipston on Stour.
They host Stoke Old Boys on Saturday (3pm).
