LEDBURY FC manager, Ian Merrick has said his side showed massive improvement in their 3-2 loss to Bromyard Town.

Ledbury fell late on against Bromyard, conceding a decisive goal from a set piece.

The side found themselves down early on but battled back to go into the final minutes of the game at 2-2.

"I thought on the balance of play we probably just about deserved a point," said Merrick. "I thought we started well and then Bromyard had a good 20-25 minutes in the first half of dominance and they rightly scored, we didn’t clear our lines but there was a lot of pressure.

"Then we got ourselves back into the game just before half time with a well taken goal. The second half was quite even, we set up to attack in the game, so we are always going to leave ourselves a little bit open.

"We limited their chances, and you could probably look at all three of their goals as individual errors from our players, their winner which came five minutes from time was a set piece. We didn’t clear our lines and then the ball has been played across our box and their lad has tapped it in at the back post.

"It was disappointing, we were good value for a point but they are a team near the top of the league, and that seems to be how it goes, when you’re near the bottom these things go against you.

"But it was a pleasing performance really from where we have been, a lot more competitive against a decent team so we are happy with that."

Ledbury have endured a tumultuous start to the season, resulting in the departure of Matt Tunley, and the re-appointment of Merrick who had left at the end of the previous season.

The Bromyard game was Merrick's first back in league competition.

"A massive improvement, we have got a few more older, experienced bodies that have come back to the club since I have taken over which obviously helps, and some of the young lads were excellent. Lots of positives," said Merrick.

In their next game, Ledbury will play away to Kington, a side enjoying a strong campaign, currently sitting at fourth in the table.

"It is a very, very tough pace to go, they are a very good team," said Merrick. "Physically, they’ve got a lot of men in their team and they get from the back to the front very quickly, and they work off the first and second balls and from set pieces they are always a threat.

"I have kind of made my mind up that we are just going to play attacking football this season. We've got nothing to lose now so we are going to try and just go to these places and implement our game, which will be trying to outscore the opposition really."

Ledbury play Kington this Saturday (November 23).
