It was a weekend of mixed emotions for Ledbury Cricket Club as the downpours caused havoc.

The team's first XI visited Worcester for a clash with their third team on Saturday (July 20), expecting rain to show up later in the day.

Knowing this, captain Josh Evans had intended to bowl first, and despite losing the toss was still elected to do so.

The bowlers were slow out of the blocks, however, missing the mark with the team picking up the pace only after Chris Willemstein and Charlie Barber stepped up.

The former claimed two wickets for 23 runs in his nine overs while the latter took two wickets for 16 runs in five overs.

Jack Trattel was once again solid when called upon, taking one wicket in his nine overs.

Tom Hill and Vicky Evans also chipped in with a wicket each, but the fast-approaching rain, which arrived earlier than expected, halted the match by 3.30pm.

The game stood abandoned with Worcester at 144 for 8, which struck a blow to Ledbury's prospects of securing their sixth consecutive win and improving their promotion prospects, especially as first place Burghill had a bye week.

While the first XI faced the brunt of the rain, Ledbury's second XI engaged in an intense one-against-two clash against Division Nine rivals Stone CC, where the weather was not as big an adversary.

They were asked to bat first after captain Rhys Gunter lost the toss.

Opening batsman, Brian Weaver, stormed in with 90 runs.

Mike Warr, batting at number three, added 41 runs to the tally while skipper Gunter, batting at four, scored 51 runs.

The team ended their innings with a sturdy lead of 261 for four in 40 overs.

Stone CC had an underwhelming innings due to some accurate bowling from Ledbury.

Opener Liam Kendrick bagged one wicket for 25 runs in his seven overs, but the credit goes to Jacob Evans, who took the last two wickets, one after the other, having bowled just three balls in total.

The firsts will be hoping to actually get on the pitch for a clash with Worcester Amigos at Orlham Lane on Saturday (July 27).

Ledbury seconds will visit Hanley Castle determined to maintain their top spot in Division Nine.
