A member of staff will still need to check ID where appropriate to verify the age of customers, but now they also need to unlock your chosen tipple before you head to the checkout.

Morrisons has reassured customers that service will be prompt, with only a short wait time to get their alcohol from the shelf.

A spokesperson said: "The cabinets are being used in a number of our stores as part of their security measures, as are others across the industry. We have received good feedback from customers and have a colleague in the area and the buzzer goes to the store headsets so customers can expect prompt service."
