The West Midlands Ambulance Service (WMAS) is launching a new platform to welcome feedback from patients.

The service wants to hear from people who have interacted with the service, whether through emergency calls or non-emergency patient transport.

The initiative, called the Patient Voice Group, aims to glean suggestions on potential improvements to enhance the quality of the service.

Director of nursing, Caron Eyre, said: "We are looking for past patients to join us in discussing what went well and as importantly what didn’t and more importantly, why.

"The meetings will take place every quarter with three held virtually and one face to face.

"You don’t have to attend every group meeting; all we ask is that you take part in the discussions and give us your thoughts."

The service says that the initiative is not a replacement for the existing complaints and compliments service or the periodic surveys.

It is an opportunity for people to collectively brainstorm ideas and contribute towards making improvements to the service.

WMAS has already put in place several changes based on public suggestions.

These include the installation of blue lighting in ambulances to soothe young children and a new method for helping non-emergency patients requiring a sling to leave their homes.

WMAS has said it hopes these are just the beginning of many more ideas that will make a real difference.
