WITH several festivals coming up in the next few months, West Mercia Police have advised people to be considerate and to know the laws surrounding fireworks.

Officers have suggested anyone planning to use the explosive items to celebrate should inform any neighbours with pets.

The loud bangs, flashing lights and smells made by fireworks can unsettle and scare animals, which could put them, other animals or other people in danger.

They have also reminded residents on the law when it comes to using fireworks.

A spokesperson for West Mercia Police said: "It is illegal for anyone under the age of 18 to be in possession of fireworks in a public place.

"Private individuals cannot set off fireworks between 11pm and 7am.

"This is extended to 1am on Chinese New Year, 1am on Diwali, 1am on New Years Eve and 12am on November 5."

They added: "Please think before you set off fireworks."
