A DOG has allegedly been killed by a larger dog on Malvern Link Common.

An investigation has been launched after police received a call at 1pm on Thursday (October 17) to the report of a dog being attacked on Worcester Road by two other dogs.

A dog has been seized under the Dangerous Dogs Act 1991 as part of the investigation.

Shocked residents have expressed their 'heartbreak' at the news.

PC Jo Tredwell from Malvern's Safer Neighbourhood Team said an investigation has been launched following the attack, during which she said the smaller dog was killed.

However, a West Mercia Police spokesperson said part of the investigation would be to establish whether or not the dog was killed.

PC Tredwell said: "We want to reassure the public that incidents like this are not common in our local area and the police will act swiftly to seize dogs dangerously out of control in public and take appropriate action against their owners."

PC Tredwell added local enquiries are continuing.

People took to Malvern Hills Noticeboard on Facebook to express their shock at the news, with many expressing their condolences to the owner and the 'little baby.'

One said: "Oh my gosh, I’m so so sorry this has happened, this is horrific."

Another added: "That's heart-breaking, I can't imagine how awful that was for you and your poor little dog."

Beck Baker, Community and Conservation Officer at Malvern Hills Trust, said: “We’re very sorry to hear of this attack on a dog on Link Common.

"Our thoughts are with the owner of the dog who has experienced such a distressing incident.

"The Malvern Hills and Commons are a popular place for local people and visitors to walk their pets and they should be able to do so without fear.

"It is a dog owner’s responsibility to ensure their dogs remain under close control in a public place, to keep livestock, wildlife and other visitors safe.

"If you are unable to recall your dogs, no matter what the circumstances, please keep your pet on a lead.

"Allowing your dog to chase, hurt or worry another animal present on the Hills is a breach of the Malvern Hills byelaws and we support the police’s action to investigate this further.”.
