A MUCH-loved family-run Ledbury butcher is celebrating it moved into its new and improved home.

DT Waller and Sons celebrated its much-anticipated move to 88 The Homend, the former Careys gunshop, with a grand opening on Saturday (October 12).

The firm has moved from its former home of 71 The Homend after its success meant it outgrew the premises.

The business started in the town back in 1977 and serves a wide range of meats, including beef, lamb, pork, poultry and wild game.

It also serves 30 varieties of sausage and a range of dry-cured bacon.

Manager Dave Waller has been in butchery since the age of 14, and after leaving Ledbury to start a family, he returned in 1977 to take over 71 The Homend, where the firm remained for almost 48 years.

He runs the butcher's with the help of his sons Matt and Nathan, his wife Cindy and several other family members.

Mr Waller said: "It's a big step for our family and with our customer's continued support we're confident it will be a great success.

"It was great to see so many people on Saturday for our grand opening.

"I'd like to thank so many people, the customers are part of my life and part of the family."

His son Matt added: "We couldn’t be happier and to say we are truly over the moon with our new home is an understatement.

"Everybody has been so complimentary with what we have done; the overall look, the feel inside, the range we have on offer now is fabulous.

"The event was amazing with a real buzz inside the shop, and out, everyone really did enjoy being part of our special day."

Saturday's grand opening involved a ribbon-cutting ceremony, with a difference, as they used a knife to cut butcher's string instead.

It has taken 14 months to make the new venue ready to open its doors.

Guests at Saturday's event included customers who have been coming to the butchers since it first opened 47 years ago.
