Carnivals’ Open Meeting was held on Wednesday to review all aspects of the event with members of the public able to give their views on the positives and negatives of the event.
Immediately after the event, hundreds of positive comments had been received, mostly through Facebook and other social media platforms in addition to emails to committee members and being stopped in the street to congratulate us on a superb event.
All of which made the hard work of the carnival committee worthwhile.
The ladies who had attended had had a great time in the procession and are looking forward to joining us again in 2025.
Another had feedback from one of the local children’s groups and said parents had been appreciative of the ‘quiet play area’ for younger children, allowing them to keep an eye on older children while their little ones were able to play in a quiet and shaded area.
Increased advertising for the Childrens’ Entertainment and Activities had encouraged families to St Katherines Square to watch the magician and bubbleman showing off their skills.
The wide variety of International food stalls had proved very popular with Matts Kitchen and the Market House Cafe who both sold out.
The Caribbean food stall had been very popular as were the other food stalls.
Gaps between stalls was an issue however, it was explained that some groups had failed to turn up and that another had been allowed to set up in a position not previously used and out of the eye-line of the Stalls Manager who had been unaware of the change of their presence.
The procession had been well received with its variety of floats, dance troupes and groups in fancy dress. With no ‘major’ issues highlighted it was felt that the 2024 Carnival goes gold had been a huge success and it is hoped to build on this again in 2025.
The ideas of themes for next year were suggested including ‘Carnival in 50 years’ and a ‘Mardi Gras’ event. A decision will be made early in 2025.
The next meeting of the committee will be the AGM on November 13, 7pm at the Methodist Church Hall. Again the public are welcome to attend.
Several committee members have announced they will be retiring in November so in addition to those able to give general support, a number of people will be required to fill more involved roles.
Among Roles to be filled are Treasurer, Stalls Manager and Carnival Princess coordinator
