A FLOOD alert has been announced for rivers in South Worcestershire.

The Gov.uk website has issued the alert amid the rare amber weather warning which has been called in the West Midlands today (Monday, September 23).

No flood alert has been issued for the River Severn as of yet.

However, river levels are rising at the Childswickham river gauge as a result of heavy rainfall, meaning roads and farmland are expected to be flooded from midday.

The flooding is expected to impact low lying land and roads adjacent to the river from North Littleton to Winchcombe.

Other locations that may be affected are Badsey, Childswickham, Broadway, Sedgeberrow and Toddington.

Flood alert areas have been identified as River Isbourne, Badsey Brook, Honeybourne Brook, Bretforton Brook and Littleton Brook.

A government spokesperson said: "We are closely monitoring the situation. Our incident response staff are clearing weed screens.

"Please plan driving routes to avoid low lying roads near rivers, which may be flooded."
