Pontnewydd Male Choir will be bringing their sound to the Market Theatre on Saturday September 28 at 7pm.

Formed in 1904, the choir has raised thousands of pounds for worthy causes with performances throughout the UK, including The Royal Albert Hall; and has undertaken many foreign tours, including Canada, Germany, France, Czech Republic and the Normandy Beaches.

The choir’s varied repertoire will be complimented by guests Harriet Mountford (soprano) and Carlos Alonso (tenor) for an outstanding concert.

Harriet balances a busy and varied career of oratorio, recital and consort singing alongside her work as a teacher at King’s School, Rochester. Carlos is a recognised tenor voice in the South West, having sung with the Bath Philharmonia Orchestra and performed at the Bristol Beacon (formerly the Colston Hall).

It will be a wonderful evening, in aid of worthy charities that support Prostate Cancer Research.

The choir's website says: "Our mission is to bring the power and passion of 40+ men singing together to everyone’s ears, socialising and forming life-long friendships with a camaraderie second to none !!

"2024 is a significant year for us as we celebrate 120 years of the choir's continuous existence. Established in 1904 as a non-profit making charity, we have been serving and supporting both the local community and national good causes through our many find-raising activities and ,in so doing, helping to preserve Wales' rich musical heritage."
