THIS was the scene when a car caught fire in a field near Ledbury.

Eyewitnesses took to social media to post pictures of the car burning dangerously close to several trees in Bromsberrow Heath on Sunday evening (September 1).

A crew from Ledbury Fire Station was called at 11.50pm to tackle the fire, joined by a Gloucestershire crew from Newent Fire Station.

Several people took to Facebook, including the Voice of Ledbury group,  trying to find out information, while others warned people travelling between Ledbury and Gloucester to avoid the area.

Many of them extended their thoughts to anyone who may have been affected and prayed for anyone involved to be ok.

When firefighters arrived, they found the car was well alight in a field and there was no driver in sight.

Eyewitnesses on social media said the car was in a ditch off the A417.

It has since been confirmed there was no one injured by the fire.

Around 30 minutes after the firefighters were called, the service called the police to assist with a road closure on the A417 from the Old Coach House to Dingwood Park Farm.

Firefighters tackled the blaze using a hosereel jet.

A West Mercia Police spokesperson said the fire is not being treated as arson.

A Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "A Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service crew from Ledbury Fire Station was called along with a Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue Service crew from Newent Fire Station was called at 11:50pm on September 1 to a small vehicle on fire in Bromsberrow Heath.

"A vehicle in a field was well alight with no driver in attendance.
