FESTIVAL-goers were dancing in the street this Bank Holiday Monday to mark the milestone anniversary of a popular event.

Ledbury was filled with colour and music yesterday (Monday) as residents marked the 50th anniversary of the town's carnival.

Then, decorated wheelchairs and mobility scooters joined the procession at Co-Op before it entered the High Street.

"The whole day was extremely successful, and everyone seemed to enjoy themselves and appreciate the bands, floats, and children dressed up.

"People were dancing in the streets listening to really good bands."

The festival has promised to be bigger and better this year, and Ms Meredith believes it provided just that.

The Ledbury Flower Show also occurred between midday and 4pm at the community hall.

Festival organisers said the event did take place before 1974, but this year marked its 50th consecutive year of running.

"It is very difficult to pin down one highlight; there was the shire horses and Community Brass Band, and I saw terrific pictures of our carnival princesses," she added.

"People were still dancing at 5.10pm."
