LEDBURY’S Golden Carnival is just days away and excitement is already building for the big day.

The town will come together to celebrate all things community with a huge procession and many stalls and entertainment laid on for the town.

This year it is a special year as Ledbury Carnival celebrates 50 years of coming together.

Janet Meredith, one of the carnival organisers, said Carnival fever is really hitting Ledbury.

Floats are being prepared and costumes are coming together as people prepare to celebrate with the town.

Parents will be arguing with their children over which fancy dress costume to dress their children in.

A big procession is planned as always through the town and organisers are asking people to be patient as the cavalcade rides through Ledbury.

She said: “With just  10 days to go (at time of publication) Carnival fever is beginning to build in town. Shops and Businesses are beginning to decorate their windows in line with the Carnival Goes Gold theme.

“This fiercely fought competition always draws a huge interest from the shops and businesses in the High Street and Homend in a bid to win the coveted trophy which will be presented to the winner on Saturday 24.

“Planning for Floats is well underway with fingers crossed everything will come together when they actually have a vehicle to put it on.

“We would like to thank A.B.E and others for the loan of their vehicles and drivers for the day.

“Ideas are being bounced around for Fancy Dress and Walking Group entrants with the annual tussle between parent and children.as the adults often offer up a good and easy to make outfit suggestion to the cries of “No. I ant to be a fairy or a dinosaur or the latest TV character”.

“A compromise is usually made, suitable outfits produced and happy smiles on the day.

“The parade will leave the Rugby Club at 12 noon to travel into the Town Centre via New Street.

“Spectators are asked not to amass at the top of New Street or High Street as the vehicles reach a major pinch point. It is far better to view in the Homend where the crowds are lighter and part of the pavement raised to give a better view. The committee are hoping their hard work will be rewarded by a large crowd, good weather and a great day for all.”
