A RALLYING call has been made to help with a bold new project to revolutionise healthcare in Ledbury and potentially save people's lives.

Peter Lane is looking to create a new therapy room to help GPs as they attempt to help the sick and elderly.

The 71-year-old, who is in poor health himself, has a background in engineering and has used those skills to design a new high-tech diagnostic support armchair.

Mr Lane currently runs a mobility shop in the town and is looking to move into a new building on Bye Street, which will have a therapy room containing this equipment at the back.

He said people would be able to sit down in the chair and get plugged into the health monitoring equipment and it will compute all the information a doctor would need, such as weight, height and BMI.

Those using the equipment will also be able to check their temperature with a talking thermometer, as well as assess their heart rate, blood pressure and blood oxygen levels.

People will be able to get a printout of all their readings so they can take them to the doctor and, if they are unwell, the data will already be available to a GP, who will be able to more easily tell what is wrong with them.

There will also be the chance to take part in a wide range of therapies aimed at the elderly and less abled.

It is suggested people should come to the therapy room every two months so they can notice any anomalies.

He told the Reporter: "This could benefit people a lot, especially the elderly.

"A large portion of people living in Ledbury are aged over 65 and they need doctors to know what is wrong with them quickly as when their health deteriorates it does quickly.

"Too many people are dying because they don't know there is anything wrong with them."

To help this dream become a reality, Mr Lane said he wants to create a community benefit society, which will mean the building and equipment will be owned by the people of Ledbury.

He would then be able to apply for grant funding and find it easier to fundraise.

The society would also ensure the equipment and building are protected if he passes away.

Mr Lane will hold an induction session at Burgage Hall on Church Lane between 6pm and 8pm on Monday, July 15 to answer any questions and find people interested in joining the community benefit society.
