A CHILD was taken to hospital after several vehicles crashed on the M5 in Worcester.

Fire, ambulance crews and police were on the M5, northbound, between junctions 8 and 7 after a crash involving three vehicles. 

A boy was taken to Worcestershire Royal Hospital with minor injuries while the driver, a woman, was assessed and discharged at the scene.

The crash involved a car towing a caravan and two other vehicles. 

A spokesperson for West Midlands Ambulance Service said: "We were called to reports of a road traffic collision between junctions 8 and 7 of the M5 near Severn Stoke in Worcester at 7.40pm on Saturday (June 22).

"An ambulance was sent to the scene where, on arrival, crews discovered a car and a car towing a caravan had been involved in a collision.

"A child, male, from the first car was treated for minor injuries and conveyed to Worcestershire Royal Hospital whilst the driver of the same car, a woman, was assessed and discharged at the scene."

A spokesperson for West Mercia Police said there were no arrests made from the incident.

A Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson added: "Three crews – one each from Worcester, Droitwich and Malvern Fire Stations – were called at 7.45pm on June 22 to a road traffic collision involving a small vehicle on the M5 northbound between Junctions 8 and 7.  

"The incident involved a car and another car towing a caravan.

"One car was on its side and made safe by fire service personnel.

"No persons were trapped, but a woman and a boy had self-extricated and were handed over to the care of the ambulance service, who attended along with police.

"The incident was marked as pending closure at 9.01pm."
