THE town of Ledbury will be marking the 80th anniversary of D-Day this year with a service, exhibition and Act of Remembrance.
The Normandy landings were the landing operations and associated airborne operations on Tuesday, June 6, 1944, of the Allied invasion of Normandy in Operation Overlord during World War II.
Codenamed Operation Neptune and often referred to as D-Day, it is the largest seaborne invasion in history.
There will be a series of commemorations and events across the UK and France to honour the brave personnel who risked their lives for freedom and peace 80 years ago.
In Ledbury, there will be a Service of Commemoration taking place on Sunday, June 2, 2024 at 10:00am in St Michael & All Angels’ Church.
There will also be a small exhibition created by Ledbury Royal British Legion to honour the soldiers from Ledbury who fought during the Normandy Landings in 1944.
This exhibition will be on display for one week including Ledbury Community Day in St Michael and All Angels’ Church.
On Thursday, June 6, 2024 at 6:30pm there will be an Act of Remembrance at the War Memorial.
All are welcome to attend.
