A PUB near Ledbury has installed a life-saving defibrillator.

The Oak Inn, Staplow, raised the money by people writing messages on its Valentine's Tree.

General manager, Chris Howell, said: “We raised £2,000 by people writing a red heart-shaped message hanging on our Valentines Winter Tree.

“As well as our wonderful customers we were also supported by local pubs The Bell Inn, Bosbury and The Moody Cow, Upton Bishop.

“We are delighted with the response and sincerely hope it’s never used.

“However, even if it helps save one life it will be well worth the efforts.

“During the fundraising period we also held a Quiz Night which raised £407.00.

“We purchased the defib from London Hearts, who part grant funded it. The money left over will go towards first aid and defib training in association with Bosbury Parish Council. The date is to be announced and will be held at the pub with members of the public also invited.

“One of our slogans is ‘Please remember that together we’re stronger’ and this project certainly proved this! We have fantastic support from near and far and we really appreciate our wonderful and loyal customers.”

Forthcoming events at the pub include live music this Sunday at 6.30pm featuring local band ‘Amaretto Lounge’; the pub charity Quiz Night on Sunday, June 9 at 6.30pm with a special guest appearance from former Quizmaster Paul Smith; Father’s Day Reggae/Footie Party on Sunday, June 16, featuring Reggae Artist ‘Golty’ performing live at 6pm,
