A WEATHER warning is in force for Herefordshire, with the Met Office warning of high winds.

Weather warning

The Met Office said a depression moving east to the north of Scotland today will bring strong winds to much of England, Wales, and Northern Ireland.

A Met Office yellow weather warning for wind is in force for Herefordshire from 6.25am this morning (April 15) to 10pm.

Gusts of between 40 and 45 mph are expected widely inland with isolated gusts as high as 50 to 55 mph on exposed coasts and near to heavier showers, the Met Office said.

This is likely to lead to some disruption and longer journey times. Winds will slowly ease through the evening and first part of Monday night.

What to expect

The Met Office has said there may be travel delays and more as a result of the weather. Here is what they are warning of:

  • It’s likely that some coastal routes, sea fronts and coastal communities will be affected by spray and/or large waves
  • Some delays to road, rail, air and ferry transport are likely
  • Probably some bus and train services affected, with some journeys taking longer
  • Some short term loss of power and other services is possible
  • Delays for high-sided vehicles on exposed routes and bridges likely

Weather forecast

The Met Office said a narrow band of squally heavy rain will clear England and Wales by late morning, with blustery showers, with hail and thunder already in the north spreading to all parts during the afternoon. It will feel colder than recent days, with gusty winds.

Showers will die out in Herefordshire overnight, with clear spells but remaining windy.

Tuesday will be drier, the Met Office said, with sunny spells and scattered showers forecast. It will feel chilly with more blustery winds.

Wednesday will be drier, with rain in the northwest later in the day and cloudy conditions with light rain moving in on Thursday.
