A NEW nightclub is to open in Hereford.

Babylon Lounge is due to welcome revellers in West from the end of May.

It will be where the former Mamma Jammas nightclub used to be and will be run by Yousif Khalend and Daniel Marin.

Mr Khalend also owns Supo Polo Food, an international supermarket in Eign Gate, while Mr Marin is known for running the Greek restaurant, Mr Gyro in West Street.

"We wanted to open a nightclub when it became available," said Mr Khalend, who is an Iraqi national that moved to Hereford brim Birmingham four years ago.

"The landlord is a close friend of ours and we found out that Mamma Jammas was popular before.

"There are plenty of food places, Hereford beers, pubs, billards upstairs - the only thing missing is a nightclub. It is something different and we want to bring more people this side [of town]."

The plan is for the club to be open Thursdays to Sundays, with music catered for the older crowd.

"We want the older generation to come back to nightclubs because a lot of people stop going when they're 35 plus," added Mr Khalend.

"A lot of time I want to go out, but what is putting me off is that I'm not seeing many people my age. We'll try and do 80s and 90s music and will have parties."

Mr Khalend added that he also wants to attract Eastern European people to go out more and will hold private parties in the daytime.
