LADS presents Daisy Pulls It Off by Denise Deegan at the Market Theatre in Ledbury on Thursday - Saturday April 25-27 at 7:30pm
The show by Ledbury Amateur Dramatics Society (LADS) is based at the Grangewood School for Girls, one of the most famous educational establishments in the country.
It is 1927 and our heroine, Daisy Meredith, is the first scholarship girl from an elementary school to be allowed access to these hallowed halls. Enthusiastic and plucky to the last, Daisy finds herself struggling against unspeakable snobs Sybil and Monica, and their ghastly schemes to get her expelled.
However, with her new best chum, madcap and self-styled poet, Trixie Martin, Daisy finds herself caught up in a series of irresistible adventures, topping midnight feasts, a nail-biting hockey match and a hunt for long-lost treasure that could save the school from financial ruin.
This riotous and affectionate pastiche of the classic girls’ school story was a huge West End hit and won the Olivier Award and Drama Theatre Award for Best Comedy.
It is performed by a full adult LADS cast, complete with hilarious characters and splendid scrapes.
Daisy Pulls it Off celebrates, with a sly wit and a big heart, an arguably sweeter, more innocent era.
