"SIGNIFICANT" emergency service resources were called to the river Wye in Hereford after reports a woman had jumped in the water. 

Two Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service crews – one each from Hereford and Fownhope fire stations – as well as the boat crews from Hereford and Worcester, water first responders from Fownhope and the incident command unit and drone from Ledbury, were alll called to the river, near Victoria Bridge in Mill Street, shortly before 11.50pm on Saturday (March 23). 

A fire service spokesperson said: "There was a report of a woman jumping into the river which was searched by fire service personnel from the river bank and by a police helicopter.

"No persons were found and the search was ceased with the incident left with police for further investigation."

An ambulance and paramedic officer were also called to the scene.

A West Midlands Ambulance spokesperson said: "Following a thorough search of the area alongside police and fire colleagues, no patient was found and we were stood down."

However, a spokesperson for West Mercia police said that, after officers conducted thorough searches of the river and surrounding area, the woman was located safe and well.
