A food charity has launched a winter appeal to provide meals to the disadvantaged this festive season.

The Country Food Trust (CFT) says it is working to combat food poverty by delivering high protein nutritious meals to those in need.

Foodbanks in Ledbury, Leominster, and Hereford are all recipients of the charity's mission.

The winter months can be especially challenging for those struggling to afford enough food, with the cost of living crisis meaning that food insecurity continues to rise.

Delivering protein-rich, nutritious meals in ambient pouches is one way the charity is working to alleviate the financial pressure of providing food this festive season.

The charity's chief executive officer, SJ Hunt said: "There is unlimited demand for our high protein ambient meals.

"Every pound donated through the Winter Appeal goes towards producing and distributing these fantastic meals to help feed people in need.

"Your generosity will make a difference to those facing food insecurity."

Patron for the trust, Adam Henson, encouraged Ledbury locals to support the appeal, saying: "More people than ever are living in food insecurity and on behalf of the CFT, I urge people to please give generously this winter as we look to distribute as many meals as possible."

For many surviving on limited finances, protein, despite being the most essential for human health, is often the most expensive food group, and as such is the first to be cut from the shopping list.

The CFT's meals aim to provide this crucial nutrition to improve the wellbeing of those most affected by food insecurity.

Supporters of the winter appeal can make donations securely online or become regular donors to make a long-term financial impact.

To help aid the trust's mission, residents of Ledbury are also encouraged to spread the word about the appeal on social media by using the hashtag #CFTWinterAppeal.
