What is your name? George & Henry Perkins we are two of the three Perkins brothers. Our little Brother Max (9) hopes to be more involved and a part of the garage once he finishes his school studies.
What is the name and address of your business? Perkins Brothers Garage Ltd. We are close to Ledbury cemetery at 99a New street, Ledbury, Tel: 01531 826102
What do you sell / service provide? We offer the full range of services you would expect from an independent local garage, plus a few you might not expect. We offer Servicing, Tyres, Exhausts, and Batteries. Brakes, diagnostics using the latest technologies. Computerised, digital 4 Wheel Alignment to ensure your new tyres last as long as possible. Of course, we also MOT’s and general repairs and maintenance. What you might not know is we also offer detailing. This is where we thoroughly clean and polish the car including all those nooks and crannies that the normal car wash valeters will not normally do. After that we can also provide paint correction. This is using multistage machine polishing to rejuvenate your paintwork removing those annoying swirls and scratches you get during day-to-day driving, then the finishing touch is a high gloss polish/wax. Or for the more discerning customer perhaps ceramic coating to really lock that shine in.
How did you get into the business? George has been working at another local garage for five years and is level three qualified and Henry has also now completed his college studies in motor vehicle mechanics.
What is the most popular / best-selling thing you do at Perkins? It’s difficult to say what’s most popular, as there is a surprising range of work undertaken, but wheel alignment using our new computerised four-wheel alignment system is proving very popular, particularly with all the potholes in the area!
What is the most unusual / weird request you have had at Perkins? Not too many so far, as we are obviously new to the scene, but we were very pleased recently to be trusted with a full cooling system replacement on a show standard Jaguar F-Type 5 litre sportscar following a bump the owner gave it whilst it was being garaged. Unfortunately, that destroyed all the radiator and associated assemblies, being a large engine in a small car it was quite a squeeze!
What is Ledbury like as a town to operate in? We are blessed to be able to live and work in such a vibrant and yet historic town. We are happy to be able to bring our services to the townsfolk of Ledbury and the surrounding areas from our garage that’s right in the heart of the town. The garage itself full of history as there have been car operations going on here for generations, starting as a blacksmiths, which turned eventually into, as I’m sure many will remember Brookes Ford Garage and then later Daniel’s the Renault garage that were all on this site. During our renovations we even uncovered old labels on the beams in the storerooms for cars from the sixties and seventies like Zephyr’s and Cortina’s which we obviously retained and preserved.
