Cricket fun day in Colwall raises £1,000 for Malvern charity

The money is being donated to the Association for Rehabilitation of Communication and Oral Skills (ARCOS), the club’s chosen charity for the 2023 session.

The main event of the fun day was a six-a-side cricket tournament, featuring eight teams from the local area.

Kim Berry, the club’s chairman, said: “We are delighted to be able to donate £1,000 from our six-a-side tournament and fun day. We have been raising funds for ARCOS all season, so there will be more to come.

“The day went very well with eight teams competing. The final match was won by QinetiQ  against Malvern Rugby Football Club. Player of the Day award was presented to Matt Watts from Malvern Rugby Football Club.

“We would like to thank all the teams for competing and will be inviting teams to participate again in 2024.

“Cakes, bottles and raffle prizes were all donated by our generous members. The games stalls and bouncy castle provided additional entertainment. The bar and barbecue were kept busy all day too and we must thank all our visitors for attending and all our volunteers; we could not put on such a day without them.”

ARCOS, based at Hatherton Lodge, Great Malvern, exists to improve life for children and adults who have various conditions that impair their communication and/or their ability to eat, drink and swallow.

ARCOS clinical director Kay Coombes said: “This is a fantastic amount and I can’t thank the club enough for making us their charity of the year and for organising this event.

“It was a fantastic day, full of activities for all ages. It was so wonderful to see grandparents, their adult children and their grandchildren all joining in.”
