A FORMER graduate from the Ledbury Goalkeeping Academy has recently signed a new deal with League One club Cheltenham Town
Max Harris, who played in the 1-0 win over Championship outfit West Bromwich Albion in mid-week, spent time with the Academy under Allan Hawkins.
Harris, 23, signed an extension to his contract with The Robins a month ago and is approaching his fourth season with the club.
He had successful loan spells with Weston-super-Mare and Bath City during the 2022/23 campaign but has been given his chances during pre-season so far for Wade Elliot's men.
Cheltenham Town Writer for the Gloucestershire Live expects Harris to be the number two for The Robins in the upcoming campaign after the former deputy Shaun McDonald departed the club.
Luke Southwood should hold the number one shirt but Harris will get his opportunities over the next 12 months.
Gloucester-born Harris spent three years at Oxford United, including one as a professional, before signing for Cheltenham after a successful pre-season trial in 2020.
He had started out as a goalkeeper with Forest of Dean-based club Mitcheldean, where he was spotted by a West Bromwich Albion scout and invited for a trial at the same time he was involved with the Ledbury Goalkeeping Academy with Allan Hawkins.
A season at Bristol City followed before being picked up by Hereford. After loan appearances for Lydney Town and Pegasus Juniors, he made his first team debut for the Bulls in the Southern League Division One title-winning season at the age of 17 against Barnstaple Town before 2,500 fans at Edgar Street.
Another of the talented goalkeepers from the Ledbury Goalkeeping Academy is set to sign for a Football League Club.
Youngster Aaliyah will sign for Forest Green Rovers in the coming days and will be their keeper for the 2023/24 season.
She has come through the Academy, ran by specialist coach Allan Hawkins, who started taking on young, promising keepers back in 2021.
And now she will move into the Forest Green Academy set-up, where she will look to try and continue her progression towards a professional career.
