Most people would agree that doing something enjoyable to keep fit is good for both our physical and mental wellbeing. During these financially challenging times, many of us are seeking out sporting and recreational activities that also offer exceptional value for money. Ledbury’s friendly local Tennis Club welcomes players of all ages and abilities, to enjoy their superb facilities including three artificial grass courts which are open all year round.
If you’ve not played for a while, a good way back into the sport is to attend an adults “Rusty Rackets” session, held every Wednesday from 5.30 to 6.45 p.m. Non-members are very welcome at just £3 per person (cash only) with club balls provided. Guest rackets are also available for you to borrow, if you no longer have your own, so the only equipment you need is a clean pair of trainers or tennis shoes.
The club also runs a very sociable Walking Tennis session (also for just £3 cash per person) with rackets and balls provided, at 2 p.m every Thursday afternoon, followed by tea, biscuits and good conversation! There’s no need to book for either of these pay and play options; just turn up and you’ll be made very welcome.
For absolute beginners or those who would like more structured coaching, the club is offering an introductory course of four one hour sessions commencing on Saturday 13th May at 12.30 p.m. For more experienced players looking to tweak their skills, a four week Friday evening coaching package commences on 21st April at 7 p.m. These 4-week courses are provided by LTA accredited coaches from Malvern Tennis Academy and cost £40 for non-members or £36 if you are already a member of Ledbury Tennis Club.
“People are often surprised at just how little membership costs” says Club Membership Secretary John Admans. “Even our full adult package with unlimited access, costs the equivalent of just £3 per week paid annually. Other options are available to suit those who don’t need to play at peak times, including a Walking Tennis membership which has become very popular.”
The Gloucester Road club is keen to attract more young adults in the 18 to 25 age range and is therefore trialling a special offer to this group for the bargain price of just £36 for 12 months access! “We hope this will encourage more young people to enjoy playing tennis, either when they return to Ledbury during college breaks, or if they’re living locally. Either way we don’t want cost to be a barrier” said John.
Children are well catered for too, with regular Friday afternoon coaching across three age groups; 4 to 8 (4 to 5 p.m.) 8 to 10 (5 to 6 p.m.) and 11 to 16 (6 to 7 p.m.) These sessions will restart for the summer term on Friday 21st April and 4 to 8 year olds can enjoy a free taster session on that date!
Full details of all membership packages and coaching programmes are on the club website, which you can easily find by searching online for Ledbury Tennis.
