A LOCAL girl from Ledbury has recently captained her country, Wales, at an under-19 football tournament in Portugal.
Mary McAteer, from Ledbury, wore the armband for two games at a friendly tournament in Portugal earlier this month.
This is the second time she has been involved with the Welsh side in the 2022/23 season, playing in the Euro Qualifiers held in Hungary in October.
McAteer recently completed a move to Coventry United following two years with Aston Villa.
She began playing football at the age of four, with local coach Allan Hawkins mentoring her from the very start.
McAteer went on to play for Ross Town before spending six years with Bristol City, then moving towards Birmingham to play with Villa. She has gathered a formidable collection of Welsh caps and a couple of English because she could, since 2017.
