Two healthcare workers from Ledbury have won awards at a national ceremony.
Nurse trainer Hannah Salter and catering manager Lisa Carne were presented with their awards by Paul Sinha, star of ITV quiz show The Chase.
The comedian was hosting the annual Shaw Star Awards 2022, which took place at The Tortworth Court Hotel in Gloucestershire on Thursday, November 24.
Mrs Salter was recognised in the ‘Service Support’ category for providing clinical skills training to all nurses at Shaw healthcare and stepping up to assist a service that had acute nursing needs.
She said: “Providing excellent clinical care is crucial for our service users, who are often dealing with a variety of conditions, most commonly dementia.
“To be recognised for my work by colleagues at the Star Awards is fantastic.”
Inventive cookery skills
Ms Carne, catering manager at Ledbury Nursing Home, was recognised for her inventive cookery skills in the kitchen with the ‘Culinary Star’ award win,
Colleagues have praised her for the way she manages to adapt the menu to suit the individual needs of the residents – sometimes at very short notice.
She said: “When it comes to catering in care homes I truly believe it should not be ‘one size fits all’, but a tailored approach of nutrition and hydration to ensure all residents’ needs are accounted for. I’m proud to play my part in making this happen.”
Mrs Salter and Ms Carne were two of seven award winners who were recognised at the event, which celebrates the achievements of outstanding staff members across Shaw’s 61 UK facilities.
Russell Brown, CEO of Shaw healthcare, said: “The Shaw Star Awards are always the highlight of our calendar and this year’s event was no exception. The quality of submissions was fantastic and it was – as always – hard to pick a winner from the extremely talented pool of finalists.
“As an employee-owned company it is vital that we celebrate the Shaw family, so I want to say a huge congratulations to Hannah, Lisa and the other winners – all of whom embody Shaw’s ethos of going above and beyond to provide the best possible care to our residents.”
