A planning document drawn up by Ledbury Town Council suggests creating a ‘settlement boundary’ around the town, indicating where new homes should and should not be built.
The revised draft version of the Ledbury Neighbourhood Development Plan (NDP) sets out the town council’s view on a number of planning issues including sustainability, conservation and new employment sites.
It includes a proposed settlement boundary, which would guide future development in Ledbury alongside other policies set out in both the NDP and in Herefordshire Council’s Local Plan.
The Herefordshire Local Plan, which is currently out for public consultation, suggests a number of ways in which the county can hit Government-mandated housing targets.
We reported last week that one option would see Ledbury earmarked as a ‘growth town’ and take a further 1,400 homes by 2041, on top of the 1,100 it is already committed to.
The Ledbury NDP is also now out for consultation and will remain so until Saturday March 19.
It has been drafted following an extensive public consultation held in the summer of 2021 to seek people’s views on the policies they would like to see included.
These included sporting facilities, future medical services provision and enhancing and protecting local green spaces and green infrastructure.

Statutory consultees, the public, local businesses and stakeholders are now being encouraged and invited to give their views on the new plan. Feedback can be given using a form on the town council’s website or on paper forms that can be collected from the town council offices.
Public exhibitions, offering a chance to view the proposals and ask questions, will take place at the town council offices on Saturday (February 12) from 11am to 3pm and next Tuesday and Wednesday (February 15 and 16) from 10am to 7pm.
There will also be a Zoom session on February 23 from 10am to 12pm.
You can also see the plan by heading to the town council website and going to the Neighbourhood Development Plan page ‘NDP Documents’. The plan and supporting documents can be found in Section 2.3. Alternatively, email the town clerk at clerk@ledburytowncouncil.gov.uk
