A RECYCLING bin and a litter bin at Newent were destroyed by a presumed arsonist over the weekend.
The damage was discovered on Sunday morning by an employee of Newent Town Council.
The recycling bin had been dragged from the nearby car park, owned by Forest of Dean District Council, emptied and set on fire.
Newent's deputy mayor, Cllr Christine Howley, said: “The council is disappointed that anyone would carry out this act of vandalism.
"This was extremely dangerous and it's lucky the fire did not spread further."
Anyone with information is urged to call police on 101, quoting incident number 108 of 20/5/19, or the council on 01531 820638.
